According to survey findings, nine out of 10 workers (that’s 85% if you do the maths) spend at least six hours a day sitting at their desk. If working these hours has become a pain in the neck for you then you’re not alone - plenty suffer from neck and shoulder discomfort, but help is at hand with a few office tips and tweaks.
Our office here at Angloinfo towers is a small one, with only eight work stations. Many of us had been experiencing aching necks and shoulders, with some of us resorting to raising our monitors on piles of phone books to try and help ease the pressure of looking downwards.
Clearly this wasn’t going to be a long-term answer so after a bit of research we approached a company called ATS IT Solutions in Singapore who took us through the various solutions. There are plenty of computer stands for PCs and Macs that help a person look straight at the screen without neck strain (see Check out the stand options here). We chose Neo-Flex by Ergotron, fully adjustable and suiting our budget at around S$200 a set.
Obviously there are many other ergonomically elements you can introduce, such as gel pads that fit under wrists when you type, helping prevent repetitive strain injury (RSI) and shoulder pain. You can also do small exercises throughout the day – we liked this page on wikilink Exercise whilst sitting at your computer and we’re all at it now.
ATS services are wide-ranging, including selling and installing computer screen mounts (including laptop and additional screen mounts), service and maintaining of PCs and laptops, and data backup and recovery.
