ALFILM – Arab Film Festival Berlin 2016

April 6, 2016

© Alfilm

For seven years, the Arab Film Festival Berlin (A.K.A. ALFILM) has provided Germany with its largest platform for Arabic films. It is a non-commercial festival which focuses on artistically and thematically significant films from the Arab world. Many of the films chosen have their European or German premiers at the festival and there is something for everyone with feature films, documentaries, and short films from or produced in Arab countries shown around the city. In addition to films, there are retrospectives of significant Arab filmmakers, panel discussions, performances, lectures, and children screenings. There is also a Spotlight feature which in 2016 focuses on “Cousins. Jewish-Arab identities in postcolonial cultural discourse” which examines the Jewish-Arab identity in both contemporary and historical feature and documentary films. There is a wide range of different subjects, genres, and styles to choose from at this festival, and in a time of mass migration to Germany from the Arab world, ALFILM provides a unique opportunity for insight.
