After hours in Aarhus’ Latin Quarter

February 10, 2016

When I get off work, I make my way down the stairs in the office building I’m working in. I leave a world of noises from keyboards and yellow post-its and enter Klostertorv – a lively square in the middle of Aarhus. Here, alongside trendy fashion boutiques, cosy cafes, and old, beautiful trees I find myself in a new world: The Latin Quarter.

This charming neighborhood was formed in the late 15th Century, which makes it the oldest neighborhood in Aarhus. In the 1990s it was given the name ‘Latinerkvarteret’ – The Latin Quarter – because of its similarities with the Parisian quarter of the same name. The area consists of Mejlgade, Guldsmedgade, Badstuegade, Klostergade, Volden, Studsgade, Borggade, Rosensgade, Graven, Pustervig Torv, and Klostertorv.

Does the thought of ending a long day of work or school in this amazing neighborhood sound good to you? Then keep reading, as I guide you to my favorite places.

 Visit #1: Delicious coffee

After a long day there is no better way to get your energy back with some caffeine. You get the absolute best coffee in Aarhus at La Cabra, located in Graven.

Visit #2: Creative fashion

The next stop is in Volden at the Stine Goya store. Here you’ll find a fantastic fashion universe with tones of blush pink and sparkling gold full of beautiful and art-inspired clothes.

Visit #3: Gourmet fastfood

Satisfy your hunger at Café Drudenfuss at the corner of Studsgade and Graven. The legendary British dish Fish ’n’ Chips is always on the menu, and at ‘Druden’ you get a delicious version that combines greasy food with fine cooking.

Visit #4: Cultural fix

Why not end your day with a movie? In Paradisgade you’ll find the old cinema ‘Øst for Paradis’. In these nostalgic surroundings you can watch independent films while sipping a glass of wine.
