Images of Poitou-Charentes
Old corn Stores
Many years ago when driving down through France you would often see Corn or Maize being stored in long narrow racks. I have here a reference to them in an old I Spy France book.
OK does anyone know if there are any still in existance in Poitou-Charentes? If so please let me know, I want to photograph it before it goes. These were very much part of the French countryside 40 years ago but of course modern methods have now taken over. I did see some a couple of years ago in southern France but they were made of metal. What I want is one constucted of old wooden poles and what would be really good would be if it actually had maize stored in it.
Alternatively does anyone have a good photo of these old stores?

You still see them around but not as often it’s true. I believe that they were for feeding chickens – but I’m totally sure.
The cobs of corn or maize aren’t like the sweetcorn that we eat, they are very hard and pretty much inedible to humans but probably great for birds to have a peck at.
