Top 10 Reasons You Should Visit Bogota in 2016

February 10, 2016

Right now is a great time to check out Bogota.  The following are the top 10 reasons why you should consider taking a trip to Bogota in 2016:

1.) Currency conversion rate - Right now, the American dollar is trading for over 3,000 Colombian pesos per dollar.  In 2014, the exchange rate was only 2,000 Colombian pesos per dollar.  The last 2 years the value of the dollar has skyrocketed in Colombia.  Why not take advantage of that?

2.) The people are beautiful - The rumors are true.  From a single guy perspective, the women are beautiful.  The city is much less obese than an American city.  With the big population, the dating scene is great for people of all ages.

3.) It is more safe and tourist friendly - During my time in Colombia, I felt safe for the most part.  It is wise to have some street smarts and take proper precautions.  I have been to places in America that felt more dangerous, although I did not journey too far off the beaten path in Colombia.

4.) Overall quality of life - The quality of life is high if you can find yourself nice living arrangements.  The cost of living is much lower than in America.  Bogota has everything a person need’s in a city.

5.) Climate - I love the climate in Bogota, it reminds me of San Francisco with more rainy/cloudy days.  It never gets too cold or too hot.  There were many nights that I slept with the window cracked open while bundled up deep in a warm blanket.  That’s my favorite way to sleep.

6.) Scenery - The beautiful mountain views that surround Bogota don’t get old.  It’s nice to wake up and open your blinds to see a gorgeous mountain view.  When the clouds get up in the mountains it looks even more amazing.  Sunsets are always pleasant.  Dusk is my favorite part of the day in Bogota.

7.) Salsa dancing - If you want to learn something to make yourself more attractive, learn salsa.  This goes for both men and women.  Cali is the capital of salsa, but Bogota is still full of salsa clubs.  You will also find a lot of schools offering salsa lessons.

8.) Colombian food - The food in Bogota is delicious.  You can find international cuisine, but I recommend sampling as much Colombian cuisine as possible.  You will also save a lot of money in the supermarket.  Prices of produce and food in general are much less than in America.  The quality of the food is great too.

9.) Nightlife - There is always something to do every night of the week in Bogota.  It is the largest city in Colombia and full of different types of clubs scattered throughout the city.  No matter what you are into, you will find it in Bogota.  My favorite place for nightlife is Zona T.

10.) You will feel welcome - In my experience, Colombians are welcoming. As long as you show them respect, they will show you the same. Unlike some other countries, where I prefer not to say that I’m American.  In Colombia, I made friends for life in only a short time.
